It's great that Austin is putting things in place to allow citizens to use public transit rather than to crowd our busy streets. I'm not sure, however, why there aren't more bike lines in place to make the use of public transit simpler. Consider adding bike lanes to Lakeline Blvd., Avery Ranch Blvd., the currently-being-constructed extension of Staked Plains Drive (a direct link from the Avery Ranch neighborhood to the Rail Stop), etc. and turn the Parmer Lane shoulder into an official bike lane. If this isn't done, you really have only implemented a fraction of a good public transit plan and won't see the use of Lakeline Station that you could see. Once commuters are in their cars, they're less likely to stop and park to change their mode of transportation. If they can safely ride their bikes, they'd be more likely to take the metro.

There also needs to be a traffic light at Lyndhurst/Staked Plains and Lakeline. It will be extremely difficult for cyclists to cross Lakeline at that intersection without one. The traffic there has gotten really bad. Is this a City of Austin or a Williamson County issue? Does anyone know who to contact to inquire/complain?

The intersection of Lakeline Blvd and Staked Plains Dr is within the City of Austin jurisdiction. The City's Transportation Dept is the group to contact, perhaps Peter Marsh, peter.marsh@austintexas.gov can direct you to the appropriate place there. The City did have their counters out there recently. We would also like to see a signal there as soon as its possible.

Capital Metro is looking at the design and cost of adding another, less circuitous trail connection from Lakeline Blvd to the station (Current access is on street by way of Lyndhurst ) We are planning to add a MetroBike Shelter (covered, secure bike parking) near the ticket area later this year, and will hold 36 bikes (see capmetro.org/metrobikes) Thank you for your comments, they help us provide the services needed out there - and thanks for riding Capital Metro

David I contacted 311 back in December of 2013 regarding that issue. Sign still says "An All Way Stop in being installed, please call 311 for more information" Whoever thought an All Way stop should be installed instead of a traffic light needs to be fired. That same person must have programmed the healthcare.gov website. Every time I commute to Leander to shop (Thanks to Bob Gedert I will spend less money in Austin because of your bag ban) That intersection delays the bus at least 5 minutes. What I don't understand is Capital Metro has the stop lights inside of Lakeline's Park and Ride, and since I am paying more in Austin Energy who is responsible for street lights since it uses their electric service, what makes it so extremely difficult to erect poles, conduit and run that conduit towards Lakeline, and Lyndhurst drive. When US 281 San Pedro and Bitters then divided 4 lane bridge was blown up in early 1986 at the intersection they had temporary lights installed at the intersection using wood planks and black romex conduit cable until they completed the new frontage lanes and expanded the highway from 4 lanes to 6 lanes by August of 1988.

But thanks for that info John I will give Mr. Marsh a call, and ask him the leading questions.

This is marked resolved, but there still aren't bike lanes around Lakeline Station. Are plans in the works?
